Joining the US Chess Federation (USCF) is your first step toward playing in official tournaments, receiving a national rating, and becoming part of the largest chess community in the country. Every member receives a unique US Chess ID, which is required for all rated events.
Here’s how to get your US Chess ID:
✅ Step 1: Visit the Website
Go to the official US Chess Federation website: www.uschess.org
✅ Step 2: Click “Join”
In the top right corner, click the “Join” button to begin registration.
✅ Step 3: Choose Your Membership Type
Select the type of membership based on the player’s age:
For children under 13 – Scholastic Membership
For students aged 13 to 18 – Youth Membership
For adults – Adult Membership
Each membership is valid for one year and gives access to official tournaments and ratings.
✅ Step 4: Fill Out the Registration Form
Provide:
Full name
Date of birth
Home address
Email address
Create a username and password
You’ll also have the option to add a phone number and subscribe to the monthly chess magazine (optional).
✅ Step 5: Complete Payment
After filling in the details, complete the payment online.US Chess accepts debit/credit cards and PayPal. Membership costs vary depending on the type and duration, typically starting from $20 per year.
